How to play Solitaire
Goal
Move each suit to a foundation in order from Ace to King until all 52 cards are home.
Tableau and stock
In the tableau, cards stack in alternating colors, one rank lower each time. An empty column takes a King, or a run that starts with a King. A face-down card turns over once it is on top.
In dark mode the red suits (♥♦) are gold and the black suits (♠♣) are light blue.
When the stock runs out, the waste goes back under it and you can deal through again.
Taking a move back
"Undo" takes back the last move.
yopumi only deals games that can be cleared. If you run out of moves, use "Undo" and try a different order.
Tactics
Turn the face-down cards over
When several moves are available, look for the one that turns a face-down card face up. Every card you can see tells you which ranks and suits are still in play. Do not only read the long columns — compare the columns where a single move opens a hidden card.
Pair empty columns with Kings
An empty column takes a King, or a run headed by a King. Before you empty a column, check that there is a King to move into it. If both a red and a black King are free, look at the colors of the Queens and Jacks you want to add next — it makes the follow-up obvious. Emptying a column is not the goal in itself; make it lead to another face-down card.
Read the stock against the tableau
Before you play a card from the waste, see which columns can move. With draw three you play the top card of the packet first, and taking it can free the card underneath. Weigh a move to the foundations against a move into the tableau, and when the moves dry up, undo and try a different placement.
Frequently asked questions
- Q. What is the difference between draw one and draw three?
- A. It is how many cards you turn from the stock at a time. With draw three you play the top card of the packet first. Choose with "Draw one" / "Draw three" at the top of the screen.
- Q. I cannot put a card into an empty column.
- A. An empty column takes a King, or a run headed by a King with the colors alternating. Any other card on its own will not go there.
- Q. Is it over when the stock runs out?
- A. No — the waste goes back under the stock and you deal through again. Look for cards that can move into the tableau or up to a foundation.
- Q. Can I take back a move I did not mean to make?
- A. "Undo" takes back the last move. It is also there for trying a different line.
- Q. Are the deals always solvable?
- A. yopumi only deals games that can be cleared with the draw setting you chose. A given order of moves can still get stuck, and then you go back a move and try another one.
