How to play the maze
Goal
Follow the passages from start to goal to clear the maze. Every maze has exactly one route from start to goal without visiting a square twice.
Moving
- Use the arrow keys to move up, down, left or right. W moves up, A left, S down and D right.
- You can also swipe on the screen or tap the square directly above, below, left or right of your current square.
- You cannot move through walls or diagonally. At a dead end, you can go back the way you came.
Maze size
Small has 8×8 squares, 64 in total; Medium has 12×12, 144 in total; Large has 20×20, 400 in total. Medium is selected to start.
Use "New game" to generate another maze.
Answer and printing
"Show answer" displays the route from start to goal. "Hide answer" hides it again.
"Print" puts the maze on the first page and the answer on the second. To save a PDF, choose a PDF destination in the browser's print dialog.
Tactics
Remember the junctions
At a junction, check which way you came from and which directions you have not tried. If you reach a dead end, return to that junction and take another passage. Remembering which branch you tried helps you choose the next one without exploring the same dead end again.
Look for gaps in the walls
Even when the goal looks close, a wall may block the direct route. Check that each passage connects your square to the next before moving on. Sometimes the route leads away from the goal. Follow the gaps in the walls instead of choosing a direction only because it looks closer.
Compare with the answer
If you lose your way, use "Show answer" to check the route to the goal. Compare it with your current position and look for the junction where you took a different branch. Once you understand the route, use "Hide answer" and try following the remaining passages yourself.
